ILEA Talks: critical grounds

The symposium will take place on the first weekend of the Alps Art AcademySeptember 26/27, 2020The first day of the Conference “CRITICAL GROUNDS” addresses a critical discourses regarding landscape, its change, perception, and use: the second day presents several art initiatives working in the peripheral, rural and alpine areas. Due to restrictions caused by the Covid-pandemic, this year’s the symposium will only take place within the Academy and will not be open to external visitors. But we will stream the talks free of charge and live for all interested parties.

ETH Robotics Event

On 5./6. September 2020 the Science Weekend, organized with ETH IRIS (Institute or Robotics and Intelligent Systems) in the frame of Art Safiental took place. On both days there was offered a «Robotic Hike» with the two robots “Myosuit” and “Anymal” from Tenner Alp Bleichtaboda (1938 m.ü.M.) the the peak Chrüz (2020 m.ü.M.). Reviews in NZZBlick, Südostschweiz, Bündner Tagblatt und Ruinaulta. – Photos by Robert Riener and Susi Schildknecht.

Art Safiental open

Art Safiental Biennial is officially open. The beautiful weather attracted many people. About 200 attended the official events, many more met individually the artists at their installations. A free exhibition guide can be downloaded here

Luckily, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the 3. Art Safiental Biennale can take place from 18.7. – 1.11. 2020. The annual topic is “Analog-Digital”, here you can find a Presspreview (german) and we just published the artist list:
Nancy Baker Cahill (US), James Bridle (UK), Com&Com (CH), Fragmentin (CH), H.R. Fricker (CH), Frölicher / Bietenhader (CH), Denis Handschin (CH), Bruno Jakob (US/CH), Melodie Mousset (FR/CH), Patrick Rohner (CH), Manuel Rossner (DE), Sara Rutz (CH), Curdin Tones & Jan Robert Leegte (CH/NL), Lucie Tuma (CH), Marie Velardi (CH), Ester Vonplon (CH).

The accompanying international Summerschool Alps Art Academy  on the other hand had to be postponed into autumn (new dates: 24.9. – 3.10.2020). Also the ILEA Talks are pushed back to 26./27.9.2020.

All three events are organized by ILEA Institute for Land and Environmental Art.

LANDSCAPE is a new publication series edited by Johannes M. Hedinger and Hanna B. Hölling for the Institute for Land and Environmental Art (ILEA) concerned with the theory, history and new tendencies in the art of the peripheric, rural and alpine landscapes. The book consists of three parts: The DOSSIER includes a collection of writing excerpts related to a theoretical and historical reflection about the landscape. The ESSAY section features writings, articles, interviews and artistic contributions that originated in the network of the Institute ILEA. The CATALOG offers an overview of the outdoor biennale Art Safiental and the international summer school Alps Art Academy of the years 2016 and 2018.
